Default SwitchProxy -- how to load it with proxies?

I just installed the Firefox extension SwitchProxy. It looks great, but I just can't load any proxy lists into it, either from a file or from a URL. The files are just TXT files with one proxy per line, format 194.80.38.243:3127, and the URLs are what I took to be "standard", such as http://www.digitalcybersoft.com/Prox...oxy-list.shtml

With files I get a box full of error messages preceeded by "An unknown error occurred", and with the URLs it just says no valid proxies. Obviously I'm doing something wrong, but I can't see what. Anyone?

By the way, http://www.digitalcybersoft.com/ProxyList/ says "The following is a list of Free Anonymous HTTP Proxies checked on an hourly basis", but there is never any list displayed.

The problem here is that you are including excess data in the text file. If you look at a post like this:

http://www.digitalcybersoft.com/Prox...ly-vt4508.html

You will see the correct format is like this as per the tutorial:

201.245.28.74:8080
194.165.130.93:80
219.240.12.173:80
81.30.218.55:3128
201.147.158.52:8080
61.95.194.34:3128
210.128.158.214:80
63.75.183.194:80
219.144.196.226:80
202.159.112.253:8080
218.25.163.20:80
200.129.168.1:8080
80.58.205.61:80
221.212.177.97:80
213.217.46.130:8080
210.21.75.114:8080
218.11.207.244:80

This is obviously diferent from the incorrect form shown here:

24.232.71.13:80 Anonymous Argentina
142.150.3.247:3124 Anonymous Canada
142.150.3.246:3128 Anonymous Canada
70.29.203.141:8080 Anonymous Canada

But that problem only applies to the URL method, surely, Insomniac?

As I said in my first post, the bare format you show is exactly what I've got in my TXT files, some of which were copied and pasted from this forum.

I just tried to add a proxy using the Add button. That doesn't work either, and there's no error message.

This is the proxy I tried to add, exactly as pasted into the Add box:

201.147.158.52:8080

In summary, none of the three methods works for me:
  • URL -- "no valid proxies"
    TXT file -- "unknown error"
    Add button -- no message

Just a heads up: Switch Proxy apparently DOES NOT work with the newer builds of Firefox - 1.5+. Don’t even bother downloading it until they have updated the extension to be compatible.
What a shame. It looks to be a really nice tool. Back to the drawing board.

The instructions clearly stated you should use the older build for a number of reasons, one of which is that it is more stable.
