Not a problem at all

Would you care to make any suggestions on what other topics of proxies you would like covered?

I know that his thread is old, but I just want to say that I found the information very helpful and have a little bit better understanding of the difference between the different types of proxies and how they rate. Thanks for posting this information, it is much appreciated.

Unfortunately, the section that talks about levels of anonymity of a proxy is no longer accurate depending on the proxy analyzing software and the type of proxyjudge being used.

When programs like FPL and EPS came along using Bleach as their proxy analyzing software, and later Proxyfire too, these programs made a mess of things and the basic traditional information that had been counted on for years and years. They changed the traditional five (5) level system of anonymity to something complete foreign and misleading.

Although anonymous is anonymous regardless of the level, transparent was also transparent and therefore was given no level value whatsoever. Now, with the programs mentioned above, they classify anonymous as two levels ... high/elite, which would consist of all the old level 1 and 2 proxies, and simply anonymous which would consist of all the old level 3,4 and 5 proxies. This is fine, because as I said, anonymous is anonymous. You either are or you aren't.

But the authors of these newer programs screwed things up because they call transparent proxies level 3 (L3) ... which under the old traditional system would be considered anonymous. These guys should be shot for doing this, but that's another story.

thanks.
I wonder if the document is the place to put up a caution (at least a simple one) that if you use a proxy, but are running JAVA & scripts, the ip address is visible? To fix this, Java must be turned off.

Since Java/java script is almost always defaulted to "on" in browsers, a newcomer to proxies may think going through a proxy keeps anonymity, when Java is broadcasting it for the whole world to see.

Just another reason to always test the proxy you have put in your browser against a proxyjudge before actually using it to surf. - Lorissa
