Ok i know i am probabley going to be told to Google it or some such but the hits i get leave me more confused than i was to start with.

What is a sock, i have a general sort of an idea what a proxy is.

If anyone has any Tutorials i can read great sorry if this seems like and abvious question but up until yesterday i was blissfully ignorant of either! now my interest is piqued.

Oh and how the bejeezus do you use charon?

If you read through the Proxy Quesions and Program Setup sections you will find a wealth of information explaining how to use Charon or the various other alternatives.

To answer your question, Socks and Proxies are actually the same thing (gotcha more confused yet?). The thing is the word Proxy has a few diferent definitions, but in the are of computers, the word Proxy normally refers to a HTTP Proxy but this is not always the case. A Socks Proxy on the other hand is just a diferent type of Proxy. Think of it like MP3 players, there are tons of brands which do diferent things but at the end of the day the most common brand is the iPod. When someone talks about iPod's it doesn't necessarily mean they are just talking about the Apple product though.

I have about 3 or for programs at the moment that trawl (is that the right word) for Proxys but i am not having much luck.

It would appear that i need Ip ranges i shall go and do some research if i come up against a wall i'll be back.

No idea what i am going to do with these things when i have them mind i am sure that will become apparrant as my smarts increases. I hope!
