Default What do you use proxies for?

Okay, my opinion is that most of the people using proxies use them for something "illegal". So, what do you guys use them for?

I mean, you can't just use them to browse normal sites. You'd have to be pretty paranoid to do that unless you're surfing some "bad" stuff

Prove me wrong

Well I am probably the strange one in this situation as my uses are all legal. I use Proxies a hell of alot in my programming. Since I run this site, I generally do alot of work researching new ways to use Proxies for diferent tasks. I use Proxies to remove the download limitations some sites put in place. I use private Proxies to reroute a large proportion of my traffic because my ISP is somewhat crap and doesnt seem to resolve a number of IP's for large sites. I use them to remove various other site limitations. I use local Proxies so I dont have to pay for bandwidth at work. I use them for IRC.

I use Proxies for an extremely wide variety of things as you can see, none of which break any laws.

That's why I changed Illegal to "Illegal"

Even if breaking those site limitations isn't legal it isn't exactly "legal" according to that site. But then again, many things aren't. It's nice of you to help other people though, whether they're legal or not

If I'd say, hypothetically speaking, that I was using them for illegal purposes, would I be banned from this forum?

Although legally I do not condone illegal activity, I personally do not mind if people on this forum are using the Proxies for illegal purposes. Infact I know nearly all of them are. However I do draw the line at asking for direct help in an illegal action. So if someone said "I need SSL Proxies to test something, where can I get them from?" I would not mind, however if they said "I need SSL Proxies to crack Yahoo email accounts, who can help me?" I would be forced to delete the post.

To date, there is only one person who has been banned from DCS. The person in question was making excessive requests to one of my scripts. He was making in the range of five requests to my Proxy checker script every second. This lasted for around four hours till I blocked his IP. Something like that is not acceptable, but I can happily put up with deleting bad posts all day, and I do.

So just excercise some common sense and you will have no fear of being banned. We are all friendly here.

Okay
In that case, I can tell you I use them to click on my ads to make money. Mostly because I (like any hacker etc.) want to see if it can be done, and how good security they have. And I'm suprised how bad it is

The Affiliate-network I'm using (no names) haven't said anytihng so far. It may be that the sums of money is so small it isn't worth the effort. I have no idea how they can have such little protection. Even I could write a program to find this stuff in their logs.

Well I can shed a little light on this. If it is Adsense, they will eventually catch upto you. I know plenty of people who have been banned from Adsense. I highly respect the Adsense network and therefore would never cheat it. Adwords itself brings alot of traffic to my other sites and is definately something I support.

Any other network I really dont care about, they are all second rate crap in comparison. The biggest issue people have is not creating enough impressions through normal traffic, not spacing the clicks, not spending enough time on the site you endup at, and not cycling the Proxies enough.

My advice, if its Adsense then stop, if its anyone else, just be warned that someone will eventually realise and your cheques will stop coming.

The other thing is to remember that networks with no real reputation to defend will not care even remotely asmuch about what happens. They only care about money which is what a good CTR brings, and therefore some even secretly support cheating.

It's not Adsense, it's much smaller. And I'm doing everything I can to hide it, even if it's not as good as it can be atm. My CTR is around < 2%. I think I deserve some money for all the work I've done

I will keep going until they ban me, if they don't, I will increase the amount of money all the time. If it takes too long time I maybe will tell them what I'm doing (or what can be done). although I think they already know, just don't do anything about it.

This is the first use with proxies that've been nescessary to me. Maybe I'll use them for something else soon.

Anyway, be glad to hear what other member use them for.

That is your choice. For legal reasons I will just state again that I do not support your actions in any way, and I frown upon people doing so. As requested though, what does everyone else use them for?
